THE MAHABHARATA STORY

At one time, Santanu, King of Talkanda, fell in love with Seyawati, who would consent to marry him only if her son would take the throne. In order that this marriage could take place, Bisma, Santanu’s son from a previous marriage, released his right to the throne and took the oath of chastity, swearing that he would never marry, in order that the kingship should not be fought by his descendants later on.
